About me
MY BACKGROUND
I grew up in a small town on the East Coast of Canada. After graduating high school I attended Memorial University to receive my Bachelor Degree in Education. While I was doing my undergrad I worked my summers with the Canadian Coast Guard working on a Fast Rescue Craft with a three person crew keeping the shorelines of Newfoundland safe and was there when needed when disaster arose. Doing this work I was inspired to do Nautical Science at Marine Institute and completed all my sea time with the Canadian Coast Guard as well working on an Icebreaker in the beautiful Canadian Arctic, as well as patrolling the deep waters of the Grand Banks of the Atlantic Ocean. Aboard the vessels I was drawn to the emergency response team and decided to go to the College of the North Atlantic to become a Primary Care Paramedic. I have worked as a medic in the community and also in industry. While working in the industry I was drawn towards the safety duties and culture which inspired me to take my diploma in Safety, Health and Environmental Management at the University of Frederiction in which completed March 2020. Currently I am registered in a brand new program offered at the Marine Institute in Newfoundland, Bachelor of Maritime Management in Safety. I am super excited. As you can read I have a strong passion to learn and improve. I am planning to write my CRSP in the near future and then pursue my Masters degree in either Health and Safety, or Mental Health.

Education & Credentials
Incident Investigation
As a Safety Professional determining the cause of an incident, identifing unsafe conditions or acts and recommending corrective actions so that similar incidents don't occur in the future is a very important in my line of work. The purpose is prevention, not blame. After an investigation, employers are required without any undue delay to take corrective actions and then report on the actions taken. .
Safety Standards & Compliance
Safety stardards are regulated by companies or organizations, as well as government legislation, and is monitored and enforced by these bodies to ensure compliance with the established standards. This is vital to demonstrate as a safety professeioal in the industry.
Accident Prevention
It is important to develop plans, make preparations, and integrate actions to avoid incident or stop them from taking place.
Incident prevention includes all measures taken in an effort to save lives, escape from injury, lessen the degrees of injury, avoid damage to property, reduce treatment and compensation costs, and prevent the loss of productive time and morale.
Employee Training
I love being in the classroom as a student or an instructor. I have been in the classroom teaching since the mid-90ties. It is a great passion to help people expland their knowledge and skill sets. Also, I am a lifelong learner.
Mental Health in the workplace
I am very passionate about addressing workplace psychological health and safety making it an essential part of an organization’s overall health strategy.
6.7 million Canadians are affected by mental and psychological health issues each and every year. One in five Canadians will experience a mental health issues each year. This is something we as a society can not ignore.
I have already completed the Basic Certificate in Pychological Health and Safety in the workplace and currently working on the advanced certificate at the University of Fredericton.

CREW of the CCGS LEONARD J. COWLEY
who on February 22, 2009, while patrolling the Grand Banks of Newfoundland, the crew of the CCGS Leonard J. Cowley teamed together and used their first aid skiils to save lives. Alerted by a distress call from a nearby fishing vessel, the Cowley immediately proceeded to their aid. The entire crew of the F/V Monte Galinerio was forced to abandon ship when an explosion occurred in the engine room. Fire broke out and the vessel rapidly took on water. Some crewmemebers were able to don survival suits before entering the water, but some could not. As sea temperatures in the North Atlantic are extremely cold , the danger of succumbing to hypothermia and drowning, if not resuced quickly, was real. The Cowley dispatched 2 rescue boats and successfully retrieved 22 people from the sea. On board, all casualties were treated for hypothermia and advanced first aid was provided to those more seriously injured. The memebers of the crew of the CCGS Leonard J. Cowley are to be commended for their rapid response, tream work and for their knowledge and use of first aid saving lives.
